Trauma experiences shape our world view and belief system. During the trauma event(s) we pull from our own internal resources to make sense of and to lessen the intensity of the emotions in the moments during the event(s) and after. Through this process we develop belief systems that we rely on during repeated trauma events or similar life events that may or may not be considered trauma.
We believe that God designed each of us to experience love, joy and peace. Belief systems developed from trauma separate us from that design and experience.
Jesus centered trauma recovery assists the individual in processing trauma emotions while exposing belief systems with the goal of connecting that individual to Jesus in such a way that He speaks directly to that individual thereby aligning their belief systems closer to his intended design.
You might ask, well what if someone doesn’t believe in Jesus? That is a fair question and that is where training in good counseling skills comes in. Although the goal would always be to connect each person to the person of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, much can be done with traditional and modern counseling skills. However, it has been my experience that even in a non-believer Jesus can make His presence known. That has led to individuals becoming believers or even at the least coming closer to believing.
